St. Louis Activist Events for Oct. 11 - 17

Reminder, there's a crucial election on November 2nd: here's how you can get involved.

This week's events:

Monday, October 11, the Alliance of Students Against Poverty is raising money for KIVA, a microfinance organization that lends small amounts of money to needy entrepreneurs, at 6 PM today at the Bear's Den at Washington University.

Also Monday, MetroEast Pride is holding a National Coming Out Day Candlelight Vigil from 6:30 to 9 PM at the Belleville Public Library (121 E. Washington in Belleville, IL).

Also Monday, the Rainbow Alliance at SLU is sharing Coming Out Stories from 7 to 10 PM at Berracha 221.

Tuesday, Ot. 12, from 5 to 8 PM, Ben and Jerry's on the Loop will be donating a portion of their proceeds to the Children's Miracle Network.

Also Tuesday, the River Des Peres Watershed Coalition will be meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 Pm at the Schlafly Bottleworks (7760 Southwest Ave).

Also Tuesday, Metropolis and FUEL are teaming up for a happy hour at Sandrina's (5098 Arsenal) from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.

Also Tuesday, Dr. David Kesslar discusses his book The End of Overeating, at the Ethical Socieety (9001 Clayton Rd) at 7 PM.

Also Tuesday, Webster Students for Environmental Sustainability will be meeting from 9:30 to 11 PM at Sverdup 210.

Wednesday, Oct. 13, you are invited to Go Italian for Marriage Equality from 5 to 10 PM at Spaghetteria Mamma Mia (904 S. Vandeventer). 25% of proceeds will be donated to the Show Me Marriage Equality Buses.

Also Wednesday, there's a forum on Stopping the School to Prison Pipeline at Beaumont High School (Natural Bridge and Vandeventer) from 6 to 7:30 PM.

Also Wednesday, there will be a Safe Zones and Ally Workshop at Washington University, Elliot Room 216, from 6 to 9 PM.

Also Wednesday, the Holden Forum at 6 PM at the Emerson Library Conference Room at Webster will feature Congressman Lacy Clay.

Wednesday and Thursday, residents will have an opportunity to provide input on the new Bike Plan for the City of St. Louis from 4:30 to 7 PM.

Thursday, Oct. 14, PRIZM at UMSL is hosting its annual Drag Show from 6:30 to 10 PM at the Century Rooms (3rd Floor of Millenium Student Center at UMSL).

Also Thursday, Women's Voices Raise for Social Justice is hosting a discussion of Where the Money Comes From; Where the Money Goes (about the Missouri state budget) from 6:30 to 9 PM at the Ethical Society of St. Louis, 9001 Clayton Rd.

Also Thursday, St. Louis NORML is having a meeting from 7 to 9 PM at the Community Arts and Media Project building (3026 Cherokee).

Also Thursday, Dr. Bruce D. Perry discusses his book, The Effects of Trauma on the Developing Child at the Ethical Society (9001 Clayton Rd.) at 7:30 PM.

Friday, Oct. 15, the African Students Association at Washington University is hosting Elkanah Odembo Absalom, an abassador from Kenya, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM at the DUC Formal Lounge.

Also Friday, there's a wine and cheese fundraiser for Barbara Fraser, progressive candidate for State Senate, from 5 to 7PM at Starrs (1135 S. Big Bend).

Also Friday, the Regional Arts Commission is hosting the opening reception for Blindness Isn't Black, a group exhibition of 9 Professional Artists with Disabilities from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

Saturday, Oct. 16, there will be a tree planting and celebration at Jones Park in East St. Louis from 9 AM to 1 PM.

Also Saturday, Metropolis St. Louis will be doing a highway cleanup and planting flowers at Lake Louie from 9 AM to noon.

Also Saturday, Committeewomen Cara Jensen and Angela Newson are hosting a rally and canvas for Proposition B, the Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act, from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Also Saturday, women will be walking for St. Louis Executive Charlie Dooley from 11 AM to 1:30 PM starting at the South County Campaign Office (96 Grasso Plaza).

Also Saturday, the Annual Harvest Party to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will be at Vino Vitae (1637 S. 18th St.) from noon to 5 PM.

Also Saturday, the Bisexual Alliance of St. Louis (BASL) will be having an October Social Meetup at Eckert's Orchard in Millstadt, IL from 5 to 10 PM.

Also Saturday, BandTogether, the St. Louis GLBTA concert band, presents its annual Halloween concert from 8 to 10 PM at the 560 Music Center (560 Delmar).

Sunday, Oct. 17, there will be a Beer Bust at the Rehab bar and Grill (4054 Chouteau) from 1 to 7 PM that raises money for the LGBT Community Center.
